Annual program; Summer Reading at the Dickinson County Library

The Solomonson Branch of the Dickinson County Library offers programming all year, but the Summer Reading Program is our largest annual event.  Registration begins shortly after school ends each year.  The Summer Reading Program is open to kids of all ages (0-18) and we offer a program for adults too!  This FREE program runs for 6-8 weeks each summer!  To find out more, visit our website

Monthly program; A Novel Bunch Book Club

There is also a monthly book club that meets in Norway.  The 'A Novel Bunch Book Club' meets the second Wednesday of each month at 2:30 p.m. at the Norway Library.  Book selections and reading guides can be found at our website:  http://www.dcl-lib.org/norwaybookclub.

Make-N-Take Craft July 3-8 @ All Branches Celebrate Summer Reading with a Make-N-Take Craft for kids of all ages July 3-8 at All Branches of the Dickinson County Library! Kids can stop by any time during the week to make their own delightful craft. This summer’s Make-N-Take Crafts are sponsored by the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club.

Guest presenter Ginnie Adams will present the story of the Three Little Pigs retold as a puppet show featuring several songs. Families are welcome to attend! These programs are sponsored by David & Elsa Brule as part of the Building Little Readers storytime series.

Tuesday, July 11, 6 PM @ Solomonson The Soundz of Time featuring Jan and Gino present We’re Havin’ A Party, Tuesday, July 11, 6 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch in Norway! Join us in the courtyard for a fun summer performance! High energy entertainment duo Jan and Gino will feature songs of Sam Cooke, Brenda Lee, Chubby Checker, Fats Domino and more in their signature show! Ice cream will be available during the show! Kids, teens, and families are invited to drop in any time during the program to play our variety of board and card games, or bring your own games! Bring a game buddy, or challenge other attendees to a friendly competition!

Home, Tweet Home Thursday, July 13, 1 PM @ Solomonson Saturday, July 15, 10 AM @ Main Invite birds to your yard with Home, Tweet Home, Thursday, July 13, 1 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch in Norway, and Saturday, July 15, 10 AM at the Main Branch in Iron Mountain. Learn about architecture for avians with this fun program for children in grades K-5 accompanied by an adult! The housing preferences of various types of birds will be discussed, and attendees will craft and decorate bird houses using recycled juice cartons! Feel free to bring your own clean, dry juice cartons to donate or use for this craft. Some cartons will be made available. This program is sponsored by Hahner Law Offices.

Mechanical Wonders Monday, July 17, 10 AM @ Cornish Pump Mining Museum Take a tour of Upper Peninsula history during Mechanical Wonders, Monday, July 17, 10 AM at the Cornish Pump Mining Museum in Iron Mountain. Local historian William Cummings and members of the museum board will guide children in grades 2-12 on a tour of the museum, highlighting three mechanical wonders: the Cornish Pumping Engine, a WWII CG-4A Glider, and a 1939 Ford V8 Woody Station Wagon! Attendees will meet at the Cornish Pump Mining Museum. A permission slip signed by a parent must be submitted to the library no later than Wednesday, July 12 for a child to attend. Guest storytime presenters from our community will read stories and engage preschool children (ages 0-5) in fun activities and crafts to build literacy skills. Turn thrift into gifts through crafty recycling at Reuse, Recycle, Rebuild, Wednesday, July 26, 10 AM at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch in Iron Mountain, Wednesday, July 26, 1 PM at the Solomonson Branch in Norway, and Thursday, July 27, 1 PM at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch! Rebuild your jewelry collection or stock up on gift ideas at this program. Children in grades 3-5 can make pendants using clothespin springs and beads. Young adults in grades 6-12 can stretch their creativity by reusing the covers of discarded books to make artsy cuff bracelets. Attendees of all ages can recycle milk jugs into fancy cutout rings!
