Annual program; Summer Reading at the Dickinson County Library

The Solomonson Branch of the Dickinson County Library offers programming all year, but the Summer Reading Program is our largest annual event.  Registration begins shortly after school ends each year.  The Summer Reading Program is open to kids of all ages (0-18) and we offer a program for adults too!  This FREE program runs for 6-8 weeks each summer!  To find out more, visit our website

Monthly program; A Novel Bunch Book Club

There is also a monthly book club that meets in Norway.  The 'A Novel Bunch Book Club' meets the second Wednesday of each month at 2:30 p.m. at the Norway Library.  Book selections and reading guides can be found at our website:  http://www.dcl-lib.org/norwaybookclub.

Family Games Night

Join us for a Family Games Night, Wednesday, April 5, 6-8:30 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch in Iron Mountain and 6-7:30 at Solomonson Branch in Norway! Kids, teens, and families are invited to drop in any time during the program to play our variety of board and card games, or bring your own games! Bring a game buddy, or challenge other attendees to a friendly competition!

A Novel Bunch Book Club

A Novel Bunch Book Club will meet Wednesday, April 12, 2 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch in Norway.  A Novel Bunch Book Club selection for April is The Girl in the Glass by Susan Meissner. Reading guides for this book are available at the Solomonson Branch and on the Dickinson County Library website, www.dcl-lib.org. New members are always welcome!

Celebrate National Library Week at All Branches of the Dickinson County Library! Spend some time reading at the library to celebrate library services which fulfill your every reading need! Libraries can help you discover a new and exciting world of information and resources.  Take advantage of free access to books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and computers, homework help, databases, interlibrary loan, language programs, downloadable audio and e-books, digital magazines, and so much more.
We believe “Libraries Transform” by connecting the community with great resources!
Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) is a celebration of reading for entertainment which observes beloved children’s author Beverly Cleary’s birthday. Patrons of all ages are invited to join us at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch in Iron Mountain and the Solomonson Branch in Norway anytime on Wednesday, April 12, to spend some time reading in one of our comfortable reading areas and earn a special treat!
On Thursday, April 13, join us for Celebrate Teen Literature Day! Anyone who checks out a Young Adult book during Celebrate Teen Literature Day will earn a treat! Also, from 4-5 PM at All Branches of the Dickinson County Library, tweens and teens are invited to a Silent Reading Party! Young adults in grades 6-12 who read quietly with us during the Silent Reading Party will earn a tasty treat!

Celebrate Money Smart Week

Celebrate Money Smart Week at the Dickinson County Library with Money Smart Week Storytimes for preschool children and Money Smart: How to Make Cents for grades K-5! Money Smart Week is a time for evaluating personal financial goals and activities using resources your library provides. Visit our branches or our website, www.dcl-lib.org, for personal financial literacy resources made available by Money Smart Week partners. Kids can get a jump start on being money smart with the following programs:

Money Smart Week Storytimes will feature stories and rhymes which introduce your children to the concepts of money and how to be smart about it! Children ages 0-5 and their parents are invited on Monday, April 24, 10:30 AM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch in Norway and Tuesday, April 25, 10 AM at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch in Iron Mountain. While supplies last, participating families will receive a copy of the book A Dollar for Penny, compliments of Michigan Credit Unions! Part of the Money Smart Kids Read program.

Money Smart: How to Make Cents

Make finances fun with Money Smart: How to Make Cents, Thursday, April 27, 3:45 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch in Norway and Saturday, April 29, 10 AM at the Main Branch in Iron Mountain. Money concepts such as saving and spending will be highlighted during this program for elementary age children: you’re never too young to learn how to be smart about money! Enjoy the stories, Start Saving, Henry by Nancy Carlson and A Bike Like Serio’s by Maribeth Beolts, and play games like, “Don’t Break the Bank” and “Create a Coin Animal.” Then, create Chore Board Clips to come up with ideas for earning money at home. This program is for grades K-5.
