Ortman Funeral Home's origins begin with the David Asp family in 1909, who managed D.A. Asp Memorial Funeral Home in Norway for two generations before Carrol and Robert Asp transferred the business to Melvin Miner in 1981. In 1994, Miner hired Steve Ortman, and they worked together for a decade before Ortman took on the business as sole proprietor in 2004. In 2009, Ortman celebrated 100 years of continuous operation in Norway, Michigan, making it the 2nd oldest business in the city.
Ortman Funeral Home will assist you with all funeral options, including burial or cremation arrangements, headstones, grief support resources, and floral recommendations. Ortman and his staff also offer family planning services and pre-arrangements for those who wish to have their affairs in order before passing away.
Ortman runs the day-to-day operations with his wife, Amy, and a part-time staff. Steve is just a phone call away and is available 24 hours a day for those in a sudden emergency.
Ortman describes his business this way: "When you are grieving, you need us to be there to give some direction and to be a caring voice during one of life's most difficult moments."
He also notes the longevity and history of his business and the vital role it's played for generations of area residents, "We've always been here for the Norway-Vulcan community, whether it's families that live here currently or outside the area, but still consider this to be their home."
